CAT Ethernet is a service for users that need to implement layer 2 connectivity using MPLS technology for its national and international connectivity, in which they terminate in those countries where CAT Telecom has presence of extended connectivity. The service facilitates the creation of virtual private networks over this shared infrastructure. CAT Ethernet service retain the same features as a Frame Relay or ATM-based networks, while reducing costs and improving performance.

CAT Ethernet is based on MEF 9 and 14 standards. The service takes the form of a customer’s network, which is the group of integrated and managed virtual circuits, provided as a Virtual Private Network (VPN). The service includes configuration, administration, maintenance, monitoring and control of all of the elements involved in providing the service. CAT Ethernet Service has been created as a solution to provide scalable and efficient solutions to customers without losing the quality and security of VPN services based on packet networks and/or dedicated connections.

    • Efficiency: Statistical sharing of bandwidth among different applications.
    • Privacy and Security: No IP information is disclosed.
    • Flexibility: Intranets and extranet could be created for any type of applications (voice, multimedia, e-commerce, etc.)
    • Simple Migration: Customer premises routers are not required to support MPLS and no modification are necessary to the intranet.

CAT Ethernet (L2/MPLS) provides connectivity between the End Customers networks, to access the CAT Ethernet network

CAT Ethernet supports a variety of MTU settings. In general, the MTU settings are from

PE port to PE  port. This parameter is media specific and set to the followings:

    N x 64                       MTU 1500

    T1/E1                       MTU 1500

    DS3 – STM-1              MTU 1500 to 9000

    FE/Gig Ethernet          MTU 1500 to 9000

CAT Ethernet Service supports the following local access speed and interface types.

    N x 64

    V.35 or G.703

    G.703 unbalance 75 ohm

    BNC Coax

    RJ45 (Dot1q or Port based)

    STM -1

    G.703 (Electrical), FC-SC-LC (Optical)

    Gig Ethernet

SM, MM. (Dot1q or Port based)

CAT Telecom measures its network performance POP-to-POP using Cisco IOS IP SLAs. With Cisco IOS IP SLAs, parameters such as Round Trip Time, Packet Loss and Jitter, are monitored for service guarantees. It increases network reliability by validating network performance and proactive identify network issues.

CAT Telecom has a Network Operation Center that can be contacted 24x7. The staffs are well-trained and can communicate in English. Service Level Agreement and Escalation process are also employed to guarantee responsive support.

  • What is DataCom international (OSS)One Stop Services?
We facilitate customers of 4 DataCom services with One Stop Service.
    1) CAT Private Line
    2) CAT Private Line Plus
    3) CAT Ethernet
    4) CAT MPLS
CAT acts as a contact point for dealing with all processes of international datacom provision. This is to make it easy and convenient for customers who wish to use international datacom service. We handle the following processes for customers.
    - Acquire information of domestic and international datacom services
    - Provide quotation on foreign portion
    - Facilitate application form signing
    - Facilitate single point of payment
    - Facilitate single point of aftersales service
Are your services available in provincial or remote areas?
CAT provides data communication services with countrywide coverage. For remote areas where landlines are not reachable, customer may consider our satellite services. CAT also offers OSS (One Stop Service) international data communication with many global partners.
What are differences between CAT MPLS and CAT Ethernet?
Both CAT MPLS and CAT Ethernet work over MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) on IP network. However, they are different in terms of technic.
    CAT Ethernet
    - MPLS Layer 2
    - Point to point and Point to Multi Point
    - Users manage network by themselves including IP address and routing protocol.

    - MPLS Layer 3
    - Enable QoS (Quality of Service)
    - Multi point to Multi point
    - Service provider sets IP WAN for users. Users can manage IP LAN and routing protocol by themselves.

In conclusion, both CAT MPLS and CAT Ethernet can support various applications, transfer and receive data, voice, video or in the form of multimedia.
What are things I need to consider for choosing the right datacom solution for my business
Private network supports various applications namely voice, data, video or multimedia. When choosing the datacom solution, you can basically look for the following.
    - Quality, efficiency, resilience and security of the network. Different services have different features and types of service.
    - Sufficient speed to support different applications.
    - Organizational requirement such as type of connectivity, IP address management, routing protocol, QoS, etc.
    - Number of offices and IT budget
Network connection is set to “connected” but why is traffic so slow?
It might due to congested bandwidth usage or crowded users at the time. Another possible cause is that LAN is attacked by virus resulting in slow traffic. In addition, speed of the service plays an important role for how fast your traffic could go.

Network check can be examined portion by portion starting from customer’s LAN followed with LINK and then followed with end Network.
